"Imagine being a Priest!!"

Here I am standing in front of my door at the seminary,
trying to imitate the priest on our diocese's vocations poster.

My name is Father Andrew Trapp.  I was ordained a Catholic priest on July 27th, 2007, for the Diocese of Charleston, SC.  I served for my first year of priesthood at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton (just outside Hilton Head Island, SC), and then was transferred to St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City (just south of Myrtle Beach, SC), where I am currently.  So two beach assignments in my first two years of priesthood, you can't beat that!

I am from the small town of Aiken, South Carolina.  God first touched my heart about the priesthood in fifth grade religion class at St. Mary's, when we watched a movie about Blessed Damien of Moloki, the "Leper-Priest."  The only thing that ever held me back was the thought of sacrificing marriage and children--I very much wanted to be a husband and a dad!  During my freshman year at Clemson University (Go Tigers!), the Lord got through to me and I finally accepted the great vocation to which he was calling me.  I was accepted by the Diocese of Charleston and after two years at Clemson transferred to seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, where I enjoyed six great years of preparation for the priesthood.

If you would like to read my vocation story in more length (how I heard God's call to be a priest), you can read it here.

Thank you for your prayers!  We priests need all the spiritual ammo we can get, to be holy and zealous servants of God's people!  ~ Father Andrew
